Introductory Classes

These classes are ideal for dogs (and humans!) who have not yet participated in group training. Introductory Classes focus on relationship building and strong foundation skills for continued training with your pup.

Skill Building Classes

Classes ideal for practicing existing skills, building your K-9 partnership and exploring new skills. You and your dog have likely participated in group classes, and your dog has some skills, but may need work on other skills. Our Training Coordinator can help you determine the best placement for your dog's skill level!

Advanced Classes

These classes are ideal for teams performing at a high level, with advanced skills. Completion of previous group training class is required. Successful completion of our Basic Obedience class is a pre-requisite.

Polite Puppy

Introductory Level Class
Cost:$175+HST
Duration: 6 weeks, 1 hour per week
Ideal for ages: 9 to 16 weeks

Topics covered: puppy parenting, deterring unwanted behavior, greeting other puppies, puppy socialization, potty training, leash introduction, social greetings

Being a “new puppy parent” can feel overwhelming. Your first step is to begin building your relationship together with positive and engaging techniques to welcome your puppy to his new home and routine. This class emphasizes engagement with your puppy, polite social play, positive training methods, and coping strategies to help you and your pup be successful.

Junior K9

Introductory Level Class
Cost: $175+HST
Duration: 6 weeks, 1 hour per week
Ideal for ages: 4 to 6 months
Requirements: flat collar, leash

The tween and teen months can be a challenge for any puppy parent. This class emphasizes polite social behaviors for a successful and safe transition from puppyhood to adulthood. Learning to navigate new situations, socialization and confidence-building are key concepts explored in this class and can set the foundation for success in future training classes!

Puppies will socialize in a safe and guided environment, learning appropriate greeting and play behavior. This class features games and activities for the whole family, designed to help build confidence and guide pups through new experiences.

We also include introductory commands geared towards learning manners, leash walking, meeting new dogs, meeting friendly strangers, ignoring distractions building confidence for pup and handler alike!

Basic Obedience

Introductory Level Class
Cost: $175+HST
Duration: 6 weeks, 1 hour per week
Ideal for ages: 5 months+
Requirements: flat collar, previous puppy class recommended, but not required
Topics covered: basic commands, encouraging patience and focus

You pup may know to "sit" at home, but can she do it in a group of her peers? Our Basic Obedience class teaches all the fundamental commands such as sit, down, and stand while focusing on heel work and recall. This class is completed on leash, with an escalating level of distractions intended to help build endurance and patience.

Intermediate Obedience

Skill Building Class
Cost: $175+HST
Duration: 6 weeks, 1 hour per week
Ideal for ages: 6 months+
Requirements: flat collar, 6 foot leash (clip or martingale) lots of treats!

This Skill Building class adds new skills to your training toolbox, helping you increase your pup's patience, endurance and attention span with new exercises and drills intended to build towards the Advanced Skills in K9 Confidence. This class builds to work off leash and prepares Teams for success in K9 Confidence.

Loose Leash Walking

Skill Building Class
Cost: $175+HST
Duration: 4 weeks, 1 hour per week
Ideal for ages: 6 months+
Requirements: flat collar, 6 foot leash (clip or martingale) lots of treats!

Walking as a team is an enjoyable exercise for you and your canine. Learn to deter pulling on the leash, avoid distractions and walk your dog with a loose leash and positive reinforcement.

A treat pouch is encouraged for this class. Treats and treat pouches can be purchased at K-9 Headquarters, if needed. Please note – harnesses and retractable leashes are not allowed for the course.

Intro to Scent Detection

Skill Building Class
Cost: $175+HST
Duration: 6 weeks, 1 hour per week
Ideal for ages: 6 months+
Requirements: flat collar, must be comfortable in a crate, completion of Intro to Scent Detection
Topics covered: scent detection searching
Commands practiced: search, show me, wait

Scent Detection is a dog sport derived from specialty canine units that detect bombs and illegal substances. This course is open to all dogs, is fun, challenging and builds teamwork. During this course your dog will learn to recognize, detect and “find” wintergreen scent and you will learn the strategies to box searching.

Dog Games

Skill Building Class

Commands practiced: let’s go, heel, leave it, wait, come, sit, stand, up, down, side,

Dog Games is a skill building class intended to increase your dog's focus, patience and endurance. This class builds on your dog's love of play and is designed for adolescent and adult dogs to practice and build fluency of already learned behaviours and is ideal for humans who would like to shake up their training routine with some creative activities.

This can be a maintenance class, a skills reinforcement, and/or a fun activity class to sharpen skills. Dogs who have completed Basic Obedience are ideally suited for participation. Dogs will need to have been introduced to the concept of sit, wait, come, down, let’s go, focus and heel. Humans 16+ will also enjoy this class.

Dog Tricks

Skill Building Class
Cost: $175+HST
Duration: 4 weeks
Ideal for ages: 6+ months with basic commands
Requirements: flat collar, 6 foot leash (clip or martingale) lots of treats!
Topics covered: creative dog training, skills practice, relationship building,
Commands practiced: stand, center, over, through, up, pretty, paw, other paw (five, high five), touch, spin, roll,

Build your dog’s confidence and focus while developing your relationship together. Learn new tricks you can show off! This class is ideal for dogs who have completed a previous class with us.

This can be a maintenance class, a skills reinforcement, and/or a fun activity class to sharpen skills. Dogs who have completed Basic Obedience are ideally suited for participation. Dogs will need to have been introduced to the concept of sit, wait, come, down, and focus. Humans 16+ will also enjoy this class.

K9 Confidence

Advanced Class
Cost: $175+HST
Duration: 6 weeks
Ideal for ages: 8+ months, basic commands
Requirements: flat collar, 6 foot leash (clip or martingale) lots of treats!

K9 Confidence is an advanced level course. All Basic Obedience commands will be applied so you can trust your dog on or off leash. This class refines manners and behaviour in public settings, in crowds, and when greeting others.
