Our Story

Fire Team K-9’s Headquarters located at 480 Boundary Rd E. in Pembroke is owned and operated by Fire Team K-9’s Inc. Our building opened in Sept 2020 to support and fund our mission to source, train, and match service dogs with veterans and first responders including firefighters, police and EMTs. As a nonprofit corporation, all proceeds from services offered at Headquarters go to support Fire Team K-9’s service dogs.

Our name is homage to the smallest unit in the Canadian Forces, the Fire Team. A Fire Team is two soldiers who depend on each other. Our service dogs are partnered with their handler to serve as their Fire Team partner for life. Service dogs change lives “…. because when coming home is a fight, you’re not issued a fire team partner.”

Our founding nonprofit, Fire Team K-9’s Inc. was formed by Retired Canadian Military Veterans based on this principle of partnership between dogs and their people. Fire Team K-9’s Inc. is a proud Service Dog provider for Wounded Warriors Canada and the Royal Canadian Legion, Ontario Command.

This fundamental value of partnership is also central to our mission at Fire Team K-9’s Headquarters where we provide grooming, dog daycare, and pet training classes and workshops.  The care and well being of your best friend is a shared partnership between our professional staff, you, and your pup.

Director of Operations

Jen

Dogs have always been a part of my life. Over the years I have received training from several instructors and studied dog behaviour, biology, and training. My husband Jeff and I established roots in the Ottawa Valley over 20 years ago and have two sons. As a military family, I understand the importance of taking care of our troops and the challenges, rewards, and pride of a military lifestyle. Service dogs make a huge impact in the lives of their handlers. After witnessing the life changing impact a service dog can have, we knew our mission was to help others. Fire Team K-9’s Inc. was established to provide service dogs to veterans and first responders to help them regain independence and purpose. As Director of Operations, I am your point of contact for applications and inquiries. I am always happy to help and only a call or a text away.

Manager

James

22. That’s been the number that I am ironically finding myself associated with. You see, I served for 22 years with the US Navy and Marine Corps, serving in Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom. Since I’ve retired, I have now come to find that 22 also is the number of veterans who take their own lives every day. I have made it my mission to do my best to reduce this number and becoming manager of K9s is the perfect opportunity for me to be able to reach out and help veterans cope with PTSD and their transition to civilian life whether it be to get them into training classes for their dogs, or providing them with service dogs. I look forward to many happy years with K9s and putting a dent in the veteran suicide rate.
